🌾 Welcome to A Shepherd’s Field Notes
Short notes for long days: about faith, people, and the moments that stay with us.
These aren’t sermons.
They’re snapshots.
Over the years, as a youth minister, teacher, camp director, small-group leader, and chaplain, I’ve shared a lot of stories. Sometimes, they came from a lectern, sometimes a school desk, sometimes in a breezeway when someone just needed to talk. I’ve written emails, reflections, letters, devotions, and quiet words to and for people I’ve cared about for decades.
This space is where I’ll continue that endeavour.
Shepherd’s Field Notes is a digital journal of sorts. A field notebook. A place for short reflections, memories, and reminders drawn from ministry, school life, faith, and the quieter corners of community. Think of it as the note-riddled margins of a life spent alongside students and families, trying to follow Jesus and pay attention to what matters.
You might find some of the following here:
Notes from old school newsletters, reimagined
New reflections on conversations that stuck with me
Stories too small for a book, but too meaningful to forget
Quiet encouragement for people walking a long road
Who is this for?
If you’ve ever:
Sat in a devotional wondering if God still speaks
Heard a chapel talk that stayed with you
Taught, mentored, parented, or prayed through exhaustion
Wanted something thoughtful but not heavy—spiritual but not noisy...
then pull up a seat. You’re welcome here.
I post about once a week or so. You can subscribe (for free) to get the latest Field Notes in your inbox. And if something resonates, pass it along to someone who might need it.
This isn’t about performance or platform.
Just presence.
Thanks for stopping by.
Grace and peace,
Mike
PS - Glad you found your way here! If you ever feel like dropping in a tip, here’s the jar. ☕
