Welcome to the Breezeway
Field Note: Let's See Where This Goes
The British writer C. S. Lewis once said,
“Friendship is unnecessary, like philosophy, like art... It has no survival value; rather it is one of those things that give value to survival.”
That quote has always resonated with me—not because it’s dramatic, but because it’s quietly true. So much of what shapes and sustains us can’t be measured, scheduled, or marketed. It’s the in-between moments. The friendships. The people and stories that find us at just the right time.
That’s what this space hopes to capture.
This isn’t a launch or a platform. It’s a breezeway—a place to walk through, pause for a moment, and maybe read or hear something that helps you keep going.
You won’t need a passcode or a curated version of yourself to belong here. If we’ve crossed paths before—at school, church, camp, or somewhere else in the story—it’s good to reconnect. If we haven’t, I’m glad you’re here.
As this little Substack space grows, I’ll be sharing reflections, stories, and notes that have lingered with me—from chapters past and from the stories still being written: in schools, in ministry, missions, and the everyday moments that continue to teach me.
Maybe even a recipe or two. Maybe!
Some posts will be drawn from past seasons. Others will be freshly written. All offered with hope.
You’re welcome anytime.
Grace and peace,
Mike
